Default Hello from TX - 06-02-2009, 08:43 PM

I just bought a Yamaha PSR-E413. I am not a keyboard player but am looking forward to playing with the E413. Any advice is welcome.

Take care...

Hi
Welcome to the forum. If you give us a list of questions that you want answering we''ll do our best to help you out.
Do you read music or play by ear? Do you play any other instrument?
Btw what is your first name?
Any help required don't hesitate to ask
Cheers
Spike

Thanks for the welcome. My first name is Raul. I used to read music when I played bari-sax with the high school band. That was like 28 years ago. Haven't read music since then. I play acoustic guitar (basic chords) by ear. Anything I play in the E413 is purely by ear.

Hi Raul
It's very hard to give advice for someone starting to play the keyboard, you obviously have a knowledge of music which is a help. I suggest you start by splitting the keyboard (tells you how in the manual) at E2, this will allow you to play chords with the left hand and the melody from F2 upwards. Select the chord fingering you want, I suggest 'Fingered on Bass' by going to Function/Chord Fingering and selecting 'Fingered on Bass'. Turn on Auto Acc and OTS Link, select a slow easy style (like a waltz), select an Intro and play some familiar chords with the Left hand then add melody with the right hand. Change style variations A,B,C & D. The Voices set in the OTS will change as you do this and the drum pattern will also change. Try this using various styles.
If you get used to this first then come back and we can give you further advice, in the meantime if you have any problems just ask, we'll be happy to help.
Cheers
Spike
