Question converter - 12-12-2010, 08:05 PM

I have been considering trying some backing tracks but they all seem to be in MP3 format.Could anyone recommend a conversion programme to turn them in WAV which is required for the Tyros 2.
Thank you in advance.
Cheers. Brian.

Hi Brian
Audacity (free) will do the job - load the Mp3 and then 'export as .wav'
To do the reverse use Shaungs Converter (also free)
Cheers

Hi Spike. I got the "Audacity " and also another programme " Switch Sound File Converter " which is very easy to use.I downloaded a backing track and in seconds the Switch programme converted it to Wav. After I copied it to a USB I plugged it into the Tyros2 and selected SONGS and tabbed over to the USB but it shows nothing !!!.I double checked to make sure it had been converted to a Wav. file and it had. What could be the problem ?, any ideas ?.
Thanks in advance .Brian.

Hi Brian
The songs button only recognises/plays midi files, this is a .wav file and you need to go to the Hard Disc Recorder and press [Select] then tab to USB.
Cheers
Spike

Hello Spike. I plugged in my USB with the .wav file on it into the Tyros and selected " Select " in the Hard Disk section but there is no facility to tab over to the USB. I seems as though I have now ended up transferring the file to the hard drive where it plays OK but as I'm not happy with the result I find that I cannot now delete it as it comes up on the screen that it is being used by the hard drive recorder. Please sort me out again. Sorry for all the trouble.
Cheers. Brian.

Hi Brian
If there's no facility to tab to USB how did you transfer the fikes to the HDD?
To delete files from the HDD you must go to the HDD after switching on and select the files then press delete. Once you've loaded any .wav file you can't delete any of them and you must switch off and start again.
If there's no USB page then you are on the wrong menu. Having switched on the Tyros selec the HDD and then press button 8 [Change Menu]. The USB page should also be there now (provided you have a USB device in it.). Tab to it then copy/paste to the HDD. This again must be done before loading any .wav files to play.
Hope this helps (I'm telling you how it's done on the T2, if you have the T1 then I'm not sure if it's the same but it should be.
Cheers
Spike

Hi Spike. Thanks for your reply.Firstly I have managed to delete these backing tracks so every thing is back to normal but I would like to know how to handle this process in the future. I have the Tyros 2 but I am a little puzzled by one or two things in your reply. You say having switched on I should select HDD but having tried all the buttons in the Hard Drive section( on the right hand side of the Music Finder button ) I cannot bring up anything to show any buttons to press ( you say No8 ) so I am stuck right at the start..
Incidently Spike I got instructions to delete from one of Eileens posts. This said bring up the files and press "delete " before highlighting any files and then press delete. The usual message is available " delete this file ( with the option of deleting ALL files ).Make the selection and press OK.It only takes a second and the job is done.
Thanks again and if you can elaborate on selecting the HDD to begin the process I would be obliged.
Cheers. Brian.

Hi Brian
I didn't realise you had the T2 so here's how you transfer .wav files between your PC and the HDD (and vice versa)
You need to install the software which came on the cd with the Tyros.
Ensure the T2 is OFF and connect the Tyros [to host] USB (that's the small connector) to the USB of your PC.
Install the USB Midi driver from the disc or download from the web.
HOLD DOWN the MUSIC FINDER button and Switch ON the T2
The T2 screen will say File Transfer Mode
Go to your PC and select START/Computer - the T2 should now show up as a drive letter.
Open the drive and you will see all that is on the HDD.
To copy .wav files from the PC to the HDD (or HDD to PC) just copy and paste between the drives as you would normally.
When you've finished press EXIT on the T2 and it will revert to normal.
You can then unplug the USB cable.
This is the easiest way
Cheers
Spike
