Anyone know how to remove quantising from a track? -
22-06-2008, 05:59 PM
I'm hoping there's a solution to this, but I've inadvertantly quantised a track in Song Creator > Channel > Quantise. I forgot to scroll down to Setup, as part of the midi saving process in the T2. Unfortunately, I saved the song before realising what I'd done.
Does anyone reckon there's way out of this, or am I going to have to replay the track, (which I don't fancy!)?
Cheers
Paul

Paul,
It is for that very type of reason that I always save as a different name before finalizing it. I.E., ... making a change in a track in "Earth Angel". I save as "XEarth Angel" until I'm sure it's right. Than I remove the "X" from in front of the title of the song. I've had as many as 4, (XXXXEarth Angel), in some songs.
But I know what you're talking about. You can be just so careful, but sooner or later that slip up comes around. I don't have a solution for you, but they say"misery loves company", so I just thought I'd share the fact with you that I've bungled it up before too, no matter how careful I've been.
Good luck. Hopefully someone has a solution for you, ... but frankly, I think you're in deep doo-doo!

Hi Krazy
I think you're right. The PC sequencer has an 'undo quantise' function, and I was hoping there'd be some way of getting at the part of the midi that records the quantise information, (or command?) on the T2, so it can be deleted.
It's not the end of the world, just means playing the track again. The quantise function defaults to channel 1, so I might leave that blank in future in case I do it again. You're right though, a sensible back-up plan would certainly help.
Cheers
Paul

Well Paul. All I can say is, don't throw in the towel yet. I said "I think" you're in deep doo-doo, but if I were you I'd wait a while and see if some techie picks up on this and has a solution for you. That wouldn't surprise me either!

Cakewalk/Sonar I'm sure has a "humanise" button which offsets the timing of some notes to make it sound realistic. Maybe the more advanced versions of Cubase do as well. If not then it can be done manually in the onboard sequencer - a long process!

In lieu of anything else Paul, ... that "humanise" button might be a viable alternative to having to replay the entire track.

Cheers Krazy, but I don't think it will work in this case because the quantise, (which was set for quavers I think), totally screwed the whole track. I'd just been jamming along on piano, before adding the other parts and the problem I have is I can never remember what I've just played!
I don't mind re-doing it, but thought it best to see if there was a quick way of undoing the damage. Fortunately, it's nothing too important, just a blues-type jam thing. I was just enjoying myself, and then bang, all creativity just disappeared out the window and then back to thinking technical, instead of artistic.
I might even chuck this one your way to see if you fancy sticking a bit of your nice guitar work on it.
Best regards,
Paul

If you decide to send it my way Paul, I'd be honored. However, ... expect anything!

That'll be fine Paul, but I have to ask, ...... what are "quaver's"?
