Good to have you on board, Paul.
Hope you find something of use over there.

John, why not include your site link in your signature here? At the very least you'll gain some valuable back links which will help others locate your site more easily.
Okay, done that. Although for some reason it doesn't appear in all my past posts. ??? Never mind.

Links to members' music-related sites, especially from forum contributors such as yourself, are more than welcome. I only draw the line at commercial links.
A very sensible and open policy, if I may say so. I feel much the same way.

If you have any articles/tutorials you think may be suitable for reproduction here, then let me know and I'll find the right spot on the forums.
Maybe you'd like to make some recommendations?

Don't forget to add a short bio at the footer with links back to your site.
I'll give some thought to the bio.
Although what a career in the computer/telecomms/satcomms industry has to do with music I'm not sure! It just makes it easy for me to learn and retain loads of bits and bytes and SysEx messages and other geeky stuff.

I spent the last ten years, or so, of my career teaching novices much of what I had put into practice during the preceding thirty. That, and writing then rolling out worldwide, a training programme for the technology you see journalists using, almost daily, when they report back from remote locations. All done with a 64kbps satellite link.

It was an interesting career!

Hope this helps but it's the least we can do for someone who adds so much knowledge here.

Cheers

Paul
Thank you kindly, sir.

Kind regards,
John.

In case anybody is interested, I've just posted the first part of a new two part tutorial on XGworks on my MIDI Tutorial forum MIDI tutorials - Home

The article is an attempt to teach people how to set up and program music into a MIDI file from scratch. There are, of course, many ways to do this, and this one deals with input in notation or piano roll form using just the computer keyboard and mouse.

The first part just deals with file set up and inserting things like the GM System On SysEx message.

The second part, which I'm writing now, will deal with note input and inserting a bass guitar gliss from D to A like the one at the beginning of the Byrds recording of Mr. Tambourine Man. It will explain how to use both Staff View and Piano Roll View and check the results in List View.

Basic MIDI articles can be accessed without membership, the more detailed sequencer specific ones require it.

Hope it's useful to someone.
Feedback is always welcome.

Kind regards,
John.

For those of you who have ever wondered what that MIDI Implementation Chart means at the back of the User Manual or in the MIDI Data List, I have just created a decode tutorial over in my forum.

Even better, you don't have to be a member to access it.
Of course, it would be great if you did, but there's no obligation.

It's here: http://midi-tutor.proboards.com/inde...ead=119&page=1

I do hope that some of you will find it useful.
Any questions, as usual, just ask away.

Kind regards,
John.

Lightbulb A Veritable UNIVERSE of information here . . . - 05-03-2014, 03:20 AM

[Looking at some of the previous posts - this LOOKED like the right place - but perhaps a "Useful Links" Section would be better?]

Anyone on this forum who makes Music, Plays with Synths, or has an interest in matters related to Audio/Technology and generally "doing it right" will find MUCH of interest in here.

ePanorama.net | Audio | Video | Circuits | Electronics Design

Everyone should bookmark this (IMO)

A couple of hours has just gone by and my head is aching with the amount of interesting stuff I've seen.

There's stuff to interest the real techies here too (Well beyond me) and plenty of chapter and verse on things like audio connector types, audio file types, conventions etc. that matter to people like us.

Be warned though - its easy to forget time in here . . . .

As Uncle Frank put it . . . "A week went by, and now its July"
