Does anyone know how to send a style variation change command?

I wish to send style variation commands from my sequencer but I need help.

I have read this document and it explains the SYSEX bytes on pages 12 & 13, but I dont now how to formulate them into a complete SYSEX message.

Does anyone have the SYSEX messages already written ?

As I understand it there is just a single line of SYSEX to select each variation.

Try recording the sysex message on a separate sequencer track and positioning the part at the desired time to be sent. I've recorded sysex messages in Cubase and played them back to a sound module.

OK Guys, I'm confused here. I'm using Tyros 3 and Cubase If I record a style to cubase I get the correct notes and mainly correct instruments but some rogue ones. I have set up the style after the record button in cubase is pressed and info for this is passed to cubase (this works perfectly with single instruments). I used sysex many years ago in a separate track with cubase but everything has changed radically since then!

Please don't tell me to record all my stuff on the Tyros and then copy in onto a USB stick and then take it into cubase . I'm specifically looking to get methods that allow everything to be played directly into cubase from the Tyros - then after mixing\editing etc. playing it all back via theTyros with the correct instruments being played.

So far I can do that with numerous voices and cubase triggers the correct instruments with no problem. Now I need to do the same with styles.

Any help appreciated.

In the Data List book that comes with the keyboard there is a table of Sysex messages relating to styles. In the T2 case it is page 69 and the different messages for main A, Main B etc come under 'Section Control'
Also under Song Sysex messages on page 72 there is one table for 'style'
You could always look in the Song Creator of any recorded midi and go to either the Sysex page or page [1-16] under appropriate channel and find the sysex message - I don't think Sysex messages are song specific.

Thanks for the info. The Song area sysex messages on the Tyros unfortunately do not have a wide enough area for the text and the code for the style values is replaced with a '~' !!!

I am in touch with a guy who sorted out the sysex codes for all of the Tyros 3 styles - trouble is that they don't seem to go to the correct styles - or I have misunderstood him - I'll report back when it's sorted - he seems a helpful guy.

The sysex messages only alter things inside a style, they won't change a style for you (if that's what you meant)
I think I have the basic idea on sysex messages now and can probably formulate a message for you for any parameter. I've just been playing about on the Motif putting a fade into the end of a song using sysex rather than altering velocities In this case you have to 'create continuous data' identifying the the tracks and measures etc that you want the fade over, choose sysex for the event type , the range of the data (127-0), the increments (not below 60 ticks) and the fade curve. Press [ENTER] and hey presto the fade is there. One thing you have to do is then bring the volumes back to full or next time you play the song you won't hear anything because the last volume was zero. You have to put the following message in
FO 7F 7F 04 01 00 7F F7 at the end or [reset all controls] at the beginning.
All the values are in the data list, it's just a case of deciphering them. There's a good days reading there!

I keep missing you on Skype!
I can change which style is playing from the pc now and also quite a few of the parameters. The guy, MBedesem, has rechecked his info and I now have all of the Tyros 3 style codes (to swap styles). His originals were correct numbers but the conversion method was wrong. That is now sorted so I can get any style to run from the pc.

I'm still looking for other things that can be done with sysex. Yes, I have been wading through the mass of sysex stuff in the manual
