Default Formula 1 challenge - 25-06-2009, 09:58 AM

Hi Folks
Those that follow Formula 1 motor racing will hopefully recognise the signature tune of the television series, it is in fact the guitar solo from 'The Chain' by Fleetwood Mac. I decided to try to record the backing for it on the Motif.
Starting with a clean sheet I made 2 patterns, one for the 8 bars of intro and one for the main backing.
Staring with the important bass line (flat wound bass) which runs through the whole song I added the drum build up by step recording. Then came the difficult bit, the twanging guitar strum on two strings. I first played G3 and G4 then went into edit mode. I retarded G4 by 40 ticks to separate them then painstakingly inserted a pitchbend control of -256 between each alternate G4note, the other G4 notes had to be raised back to zero. this produced a slightly out of tune strum on the 2 strings. I now had an 8 measure intro for pattern A.
The bass track and guitar strum track were copied to Pattern B and a straight drum beat recorded for that. this pattern is the one which accompanies the rest of the song with no variation.
The 2 patterns were chained together and the chain recorded. The was then a final mix.
This recording was made into a wav file in two ways
1) through the Tyros 2 and recorded to the HDD, this was then transferred to Shaungs Converter on the PC and made into an Mp3. I believe some of the T2 settings came through here and the reverb is rather high. Here's the Mp3

2) Played through the PC sound card and recorded with Audacity and then into an Mp3 with Shaungs Converter. This is a very flat and quieter result
Here's that Mp3

Now here's the challenge....put in the melody ie the guitar solo!
The Mp3's are long enough for you to mess around. The whole thing should fade out after about 16 bars anyway.
Good luck
Spike

All this technical wizadry at our fingertips and still no takers!

C'mon guys, (and gals) this is a good challenge. Surely there's someone up to it?
