Fire away Ray, I hope I'll be able to answer any questions.
BTW when you make a style it is best if you record bass, chords etc in CMaj7
Cheers

Hi Spike.
Had a go at producing my own style via your posted instructions.
Maybe I was going a bit ahead of myself, but I was laying a bass drum sound of Single Beat/Double Beat, Single Beat/Double Beat, Single Beat/Double Beat, Single Beat/Souble Beat, for four bars at 4/4 timing.
OK, all fine untill I get to the edit stage! 111 first bar, 222 second bar, 333 third bar and 444 the fourth bar. All this is fine, and the values for each first and third note would be 0000. But I couldn't work out what the values would be for the second note in each bar.(Mine were all over the place!)
Is there a way to work these values out?
Regards,
Ray.

Hi Ray
There are 1920 ticks to a beat so you could divide 1920 by however many drum
'hits' you want in that beat.A half beat is therefore 960 ticks (1920/2)
I'm not sure what you mean by 111,222,333,444
If you play the bass drum C1 beats that you are trying to then you should
get the event values as
001:1:0000
001:2:0960
001:3:0000
002:1:0000
002:2:0960
002:3:0000
Etc
If you put in a snare drum E1 on the the 'off' beat the events and values
are
001:1:0000 C1
001:2:0000 E1
001:2:0960 C1
001:3:0000 C1
001:4:0000 E1
002:1:0000 C1
002:2:0000 E1
002:2:0960 C1
002:3:0000 C1
002:4:0000 E1
Etc
Try altering the values to these in the [EDIT] page
Then come back to me if you still have a problem
BTW if you want to have a talk-through while you do it then I'm on skype
during the week and a normal phone at weekends.
Cheers
Spike

Hi Spike.
These are the readings I got from entering a Single/Double beat on c1 for four bars, in the edit stage:

001:1:0000 Prog.
001:1:0000 Note
001:1:0000 "
001:1:0000 "
001:1:0088 "

001:2:0880 "
001:2:0896 "
001:2:0920 "
001:2:0920 "
001:2:1872 "
001:2:1904 "

001:3:0024 "
001:3:0024 "
002:1:0000 End

I can't make any sense of these numbers although the beat sounds exactly as I want it!
Any Ideas?
Regards,
Ray.

Hi Ray
The beat sounds like what you want because the timings are so very close your ear can't really tell the difference. The values I gave you are the true values and that's what you'd get if you 'quantized' your values.
The 'prog' line is just the instrument/voice number which will be further across to the right on the same line
Then you have 3 drum beats occuring at the same time (you don't say which drum notes are playing) and one beat 88 ticks late.
Then you have the next 4 drum beats (again you don't say what they are) all early, they would all be at 0960
The next 2 beats 001:2:1872 and 001:2:1904 should both be 001:3:0000
The next 2 beats 001:3:0024 are 24 ticks too late
If you have only recorded the bass drum C1 for 1 measure then you have duplicated the beats and 1 measure should read
001:1:0000 C1
001:2:0960 C1
001:3:0000 C1
002:1:0000 End
That's for one bar not 4 bars......
remember the columns..... measure(or bar)/beat/tick
If you want a 4 measure (or bar) loop then you have to select that before you start recording and press [execute]
I suspect from your figures you have not changed the number of measures to 4 and have overdubbed 3 measures. Just remember a tick is a minute amount of time and even if the ticks are out it rarely matters because it humanises it.
Did you ever hear a drummer who is dead on every beat....NO!
It's the same with bass players, they are usually a few ticks late.
If everything is dead on the beat then it will sound regimented, a bit like phrasing with the melody.
Cheers
Spike

I wanted to thank you for this information. My manual doesn't explain it as well as you do. I'm new here, but I appreciate the effort and know it is going to help me. I am trying to start creating my own styles, but they are a pain. Guess it isn't so bad if you know how to do them.

Hi Spike..loved your reply to Pam....I would be one of the 'silent ones' but I read all , enjoy and try to digest...the digest part gets more difficult as the hair thins and the dots appear smaller.....re this thread...havent done much in this regard for some time now but when I need to tweak and modify I get out the old 640...easier to fathom and I loose my cool very quickly using the 3000/1500.....Regards...Mardy

Hi Tony, Eileen is a personal friend of mine who generously gives her styles away for nothing, I have nearly 3000 of them, You'll find them on Create Songs Style and on PSR Tutorial...Pam
