Default Changing BREAK in Style - 17-11-2009, 04:21 PM

Hi All,

Still getting used to my tyros 1, and wondering if I can change the Drum roll in Break on a pre set style?
Any help would be welcome.

Regards,
Ray

Hi Ray
What do you want to change it to?
You have the option of editing the roll or replacing it with a break from another style or even writing your own,
Cheers
Spike

Hi Ray
Ok load the style, go to Digital Recording/Style Creator. In Style Control press [BREAK]. A small window called Section will appear in the lower right of the screen with 'Break' highlighted in red. Press [OK]. Along the bottom of the screen there will be the icons for the style channels. CH 10 (RHY2) should be on [REC], if it isn't then press [BUTTON F] and while holding it down press [BUTTON 2]. Now tab along to the [EDIT] page where using [BUTTON B] you can scroll down the events until you get to your drum roll events. You can now edit these, when you are done press [SAVE]
If you want to actually record your drum roll then you delete CH 10 . This is done on the [BASIC] page where you can press [BUTTON J] and while holding it down press [BUTTON 2]. You have now deleted the RHY2 channel. Select a drum kit then press [EXIT] to return to the style creator. Now press [BUTTON F] and while holding it down press [BUTTON 2] which will now change RHY2 to [REC]. You can now record your drum roll or whatever else you may want to have as the break. After recording if you are happy press [SAVE] , if the break isn't exactly what you want you can then tab over to the [EDIT] page and edit as before.
Hope this helps
Spike

Thanks Spike, You're a Diamond!
I'll give it a try!
I take it I can alter any part of a style in the same way?
Regards,
Ray.

Hi Ray
No! I'm afraid you can't alter a preset style other than the RHY1 & RHY2 channels because of copyright (you can't copyright drum beats and Yamaha have put a blocking code in the others). You can however alter ones you've made yourself, sometimes you can alter those converted from other makes.

Hi Guys.

Spike , you have got me thinking now,.....I'm sure you can "customise" an onboard style using the style creator mode ? just as I did with the "One of these nights" style I sent you , and I would'nt think the copyright thing would crop up for your own in home use ?

Ray, apart from creating your own break, its also quite easy to make your own fill ins for the 4 style variations as well.

Gordon

Edited comment :- Spike, ...just re-read your post, and I maybe getting confused with the method you describe as "events" ,......when I create my own fill ins and breaks, I play the drum riffs manually.

Hi Gordon,
Thanks for your comments, but it seems that what you have said is true.
I haven't actually tried altering the style, but Spike is fairly confident that it can't be done.

Regards,
Ray.

Hi Gordon
The only part of a preset style you can alter are the 2 rhythm channels, if you want to alter channels 11 to 16 then you have to delete the channel and record your own. The rhythm channels can't be copyrighted but Yamaha put a code block in ch 11-16 so you can't alter what they have written. The way round it is taking a note of the events (write them down) then delete the channel and write those events back in by hand then alter them - you can get to the edit page to do this then. Try to get to the edit page with ch 11-16 and you'll get nowhere.
Ref your edit - yes you can do that from scratch or deleting the channel first then recording your own fill-ins etc the copyright thing isn't whether you use it for home use or not. Yamaha have written those parts and don't want others to alter them. Aparently you can't copyright a drum beat so Yamaha allow you to access those channels.
Strange state of affairs really when some other manufacturers allow this.
Of course you can always record your song then alter to your hearts content.
Cheers
Spike
