Close to you - close to you 2.mp3 - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage

Written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. I just recorded a live two track mix from T3. There are a few 'threads' sticking out. But I wanted to make it an exercise in playing live and doing one take.. (but I did practise for many times!)

Hi Mark
First thing that hit me was the intro did not fit the rest of the song, nor did the ending although it was improved by you playing over it.
That said it was a nice take on the song although the timing sounded difficult to achieve at times, liked the ethereal atmosphere created by the style - it was the one I used for Mountain Mist.
Cheers
Spike

Hi Spike;

Thanx for the comments. Yes I agree the intro/outro don't quite fit with song. I liked the style, and didn't want to take the time to create a new intro.. Normally I would have used another style, or used Logic to capture an intro from a different style, and paste it together. But I did not want to take several hours to do the song. Guess I need to brush up on chord progressions to 'transition' between songs.

How do you get around this problem?

The problem of using a style that has an intro with incompatible chords which don't quite fit with the chords in the body of the song.

I have figured out sometimes, I can play a different chord for the intro, which forces the intro into a different key.

Mmmm! maybe ditch the intro and just play the thing in from a tap start.
You could always edit what you've recorded, changing the chords etc either in the keyboard or in Logic. I assume you only have this problem when playing live.

It was a question more for when playing live. If I was to play it live, I would have to modify the intro to fit the chord progression. When I was a kid taking organ lessons, we spent a couple of weeks focusing on building chord substitutions (for intros) and how to create a transitional bridge to go from any key to any other key. But I forget that stuff, have to brush up.

Wotcha Mark

You see this where you guys have got an edge over on me, you hear things that go right over my head - I have listened to this piece several times and the intro sounds great to me

As usual Mark, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your arrangement, this will join the rest on the 'MS' cd

Catch you later,

Mike
