Default To the Unknown Man - 07-05-2010, 06:39 PM

Hi Everyone
Hot off the press with this Vangelis number. The style is mostly home made with a couple of parts assembled from another style. Recorded in one take then a further track added.
I think it used to be the signature tune of a tv program called 'War in the air'
Here's the Mp3 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download To the Unknown Man.mp3
Comments, good or bad, always welcome
Midi won't sound good through the PC

Cheers
Spike

Hi Spike, Very nicely played, although I don't think this is one of Vangelis's best, I found it very repetitious, didn't seem to be going anywhere, not your fault though...Pam

Hi Pam
I have to agree it's maybe not his best, there is a sound effect in the original which I wasn't able to replicate and insert, this makes it a little more interesting.
Thanks for your nice comments anyway
Cheers
Spike

Hi Romeo
Thanks for your great comments and the Youtube link. Yes the build-up on a repetitive core phrase is the basis of most of Vangelis's work, indeed most synth work. It's only when an amateur like me tries it that the repetitiveness is more obvious. I wish I had the knack of balancing it like the pros.
Cheers
Spike

Hiya Spike,

Very nice production, I am enjoying listening to this, I'm on my 5th listen now

Some super sounds you have got there and it all fits together nicely - great playing Spike, well done

Got one or two true stories about Vangelis as I met the guy back in 79/80 at a Music Expo at Alexandra Palace ... great player, but what an obnoxious person, I had a run in with him over a Yamaha EX-1 that I provided for him to play at the Expo ... still got the photo's somewhere I will dig them out, scan and post them at a later date.

Never really listened to his music since guess I have been missing out because I enjoyed that.

All the best,

Mike

Hi Mike
I appreciate all those nice comments mate - thanks a lot.
Yeh I heard Vangelis wasn't the easiest person to get along with, must have been great to meet him all the same - look forward to seeing the photos.
Cheers
Spike

Hi Romeo
That Roland SH1000 was my first synth too, bought in 1975 but some great synth sounds on it. I used it on top of my Hammond Phoenix. Happy days
Cheers

Hi Spike

Heard this a few times now and you've certainly got the hang of this style of synth piece. Some nice voices in there which you played well as always.

Although the song itself is a little repetitive, you kept the interest going with the nice voice changes.

Another keeper!

Cheers

Paul
