Dear friends

here is my version of the old classic - a version I just had to share with you to hear your opinion of the style. My playing is less important.

I think that the style is just THE style for this song. I modified it a little bit to suit the music more by changing some instruments in the style to flutes etc.

But really - what do you think?

link is here: El condor pasa.mp3 - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage

By the way: It's a song written by the Peruvian composer Daniel Alomía Robles in 1913 (NO - NOT Simon & Garfunkel) and based on traditional Andean folk tunes...

Best regards

Torben

Hello Torben
Certainly the right style for this song and it sounded good. I think the first 2 verses sounded very low, perhaps too low for a pan pipe, the voices for the rest were beautiful especially when the 2 voices combined at the end. Didn't like the ending though, it was strange unless it was my equipment. Well played, I really liked it.
All the best
Ewan

Hi Torben,

I guess we all could change a few instruments and such to suit our personal taste, but you wanted an opinion about the style. So, ... I too agree that the style is excellent for the song. I'm sure other styles would work well also, but who knows? You may have the best, maybe not. Definitely a good one though and thanx for sharing.

By the way, ... you shattered my world when you said Simon & Garfunkle didn't write the song. Are you sure? I think they wrote it back in 1911, which would mean they beat everyone by 2 years!

Hi Torben

the style worked very well for the song .. i too like to play el condor and it was my first ever upload on svp i used the 'pop enka' style from the T1 which worked well i thought , later my good friend bogdan made a custom style for the song at my request and i would like to share it with you , i hope this will be of some use

cheers

Dear friends

EWAN - thanks for your kind comments. The ending is - I agree - somewhat too abrupt. I will try a fade out next time. And I will try to raise the pan flute a bit.

KRAZY - I am glad you liked the style. Sometimes changing a few instruments in the style can do miracles I think.

AndyBEE - many thanks for sharing the style. I am dying to try it out...

Best regards to all of you

Torben

Thank so much Torben for this beautiful song, and glad you kept the Pan flute going throughout the song, would love the midi, to add to your folder...Pam

Hi Torben.

Loved the intro, and the style was a good choice in My oppinion.

My only critique would be your phrasing of the melody line, all the notes were there, but they didn't flow quite right with the rhythm ,...... seemed more "jazzed up" if that makes sense ?.

Anyhow, apart from that, it was a very enjoyable performance.

Kind Regards
Gordon

Torben :
I would like to express here my deepest congratulation to you for been one of just few musicians on all the groups I've been, that risk your self playing music that isn't your ethnic music.
On this song you produced a very nice South American ambience at the time you played that flute and the background voices and arrangements.
The style is very adjustable to the Indian's rithm and I like it very much.
You are also right about the composser.
My hat to you my dear friend on this performance, but above all for what I mentioned in the beginning of my comment here.
Excellent Torben, . . . .really Excellent ! ! !

Regards.
Julio.-

Hi Torben
Finally got round to listening to this - your version is excellent and the style couldn't be better, a hard song to end and a fade would have been great. Very enjoyable
Cheers
Spike

Dear Pam - thanks for your very kind remarks. I will see if I can find the midi (I think that I made a direct recording in Waw-format but I'm not sure).

Dear Gordon - you are completely right. I prefer most of the time to jazzify things a little bit. It's my weakness...

And Julio - my dear friend. I'm so proud that you liked my version. This is a song that I really love.

Last but not least: Dear Spike - you are completely right. I will try to end the song with a fade the next time I play it.

All the best to all of you

Torben
