So Many Stars -
13-09-2008, 03:41 PM
Hi
This song was written by Sergio Mendes for his "Brazil 66" album. This is a jazz quintet arrangement - piano, bass, guitar, drums & alto sax - multi-tracked in audio on my EL900 organ, with some extra drums added as usual. Plenty of "out of tune" jazz chords for Julio on this one!
Hope you like it.

Hi Andrew
Did you play this by ear? if so how the hell did you remember all the parts? if you played from the dots I take my hat off to you (well I do anyway ).
Very clever stuff and the lost chord must surely be in there somewhere , not reeeaaaalllly my forte but having listened to it a few times the more I hear it the more I like it and you have an obvious talent for producing this audio multi-tracking. Picking brains again do you lay down a click track first then add the various voices ie is there a best way of doing this?
Looking forward to more.
Cheers
Spike

Hi Andrew, Not really my C of T,but you did a superb job of multitracking, something i must learn to do, the trouble with me I'm too impatient, you get some lovely sounds out that EL, The EL's that I've heard dont sound like that at all...Pam

Hi Andrew.
This genre of jazz has a very limited appeal to most people, but theres no doubt about it, some extraordinary multi-tracking and editing here !!.
Very clever composition My friend .

Andrew,
As I've said before, ... not my cup of tea either, but one has to appreciate the talent it takes to make a recording such as this. My hat's off to you again and you've certainly gained my respect as a musician! Thanx for the upload!

Hi Spike, Torben, Paul, Pam, Gordon & Krazy
Many thanks for your great comments & for taking the time to have a listen.
Spike - I play by ear - tried to learn to sight read many times, but I just can't seem to make the connection between a dot on a page & a note on a keyboard! As for multi-tracking, it varies depending on the song, but yes as a rule I record a basic rhythm track first, then add the other bits, usually working on a section of a few bars at a time.
Regards - Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Excellent smooth jazz here! Skillfully played and artistically arranged.
One has to acquire a taste for dissonant chords, and my taste for them grows when I here a piece like this.
Good job of multi tracking. I use bassically the same approach, to build a midi sequence, recording one track at a time in Cubase.
