1.5748 Metres -
29-09-2008, 02:03 PM
Hi folks
This was originally called Five Foot Two before we joined the dreaded and hated EU.
Quick record but added a track of jazz guitar to give it a bit better backing, I resisted the temptation to add dsp as this era of music usually sounded flat.
Hope you like this little effort, comments welcome as always

The midi won't sound good on the PC

Hello Spike
That's very funny and droll too. I hate the EU too.
The song is brilliant - my sort of music, well played.....Oh and I loved that trombone
All the best

Hi Spike
I'm glad you converted the title to 'metric' as with me been so young i can't work in 'imperial' .. ah the good old EU
Great choice of voices which changed very smoothly and fitted very well .. it was nice for a change to steer away from the Hank guitar.
I like the upbeat style of this type of music does it come into the ragtime genre? It has a charlston feel to it
Super playing Spike did you clean it up on Cubasis or are you really this good ?
Good 1 mate

Thanks for your great comments guys
Romeo, good to see a fellow Muppet fan, they're coming back you know
Frank, good to see you with us, glad you liked it
Andy, Yep I suppose it could be classed as Ragtime, Trad or even a modern jazz lilt. This is how I recorded it straight off after a quick run through, no editing , not using Cubase at the moment although I added a bit of panning in Mixing Console. The impro just flowed along from the brain (a short and quick journey), no rehearsal!
Thanks & cheers
Spike

Hi Spike
Kudos for playing it this good with no rehersal .. Is it an improvisation of a song that already exists as you have put it in the covers section ?
Do you change your voices and main variations with your hand or like me use a foot pedal to move the stored registration banks along?
cheers
Andy

That was GREAT Spike. Thats how I like em straight off warts 'n all. However I couldn't spot any in your rendition.Super improvisation which I keep trying to do because it sounds so easy to listen to but I always seem to lose the timing and in extreme cases I can even lose the melody .
Cheers. Brian.

Hi Andy
The song already exists and is an old standard, the only improvisation I did was with the trombone to break up the melody repeats. I don't use registrations with the exception of one which I have named "Start" this sets my footpedal to the pitchbend function so I can bend notes which due to voice or chord changes would be otherwise impossible. The variations are changed with the left hand.
Cheers
Spike

Hi Brian
Thanks very much for your encouraging comments, there are a couple of "warts" in there so I'm glad they didn't jump out and bite. For impros I'm usually playing just a variation of the notes used in the main melody sticking in the odd riff here and there - believe me, as a non-reader it can be a bit "hit and miss", sometimes it works sometimes not.
Thanks again for taking the time
Cheers
Spike
