This was a rap tune, came out in 94. The music originally came from Mike McDonald of the Doobie Brothers (back in the 70's song called - "I keep Forgetting")

I used two different styles, recorded into Logic.. I eventually assigned the kick and snare over to Stylus RMX but rest of drums and percussion were played by Tyros. I took the melody line, and changed patch three times and made a copy of the melody and assigned it to a virtual instrument called "Blue" by Rob Papin.. i edited that and added it under the melody line..It comes on/off in a few places to add add interest to the melody.

The drums, organ, guitar, and horn lines were generated by the Tyros. I added a string riff, and the flute part. Bass also is like the original. I took two different style parts Tyros played and modified and placed them through out the song..The original Tyros ending was a bit too long and too much, I just cut out bars in the middle, and got that interesting ending..

I built a new drum track using the jazz funk style. At the end, I had Logic playing all tracks except the drums.. I reset the buttons in the MIDI preset Transmit and Receive pages, so the Tyros could generate a new style, different from the one originally used to build the song.

So Tyros was receiving tracks it originally generated, but were now being played by Logic. In the Tyros, you assign those to the SONG channel, and they come up in a different place in the mixer.

I recorded several tracks of Tyros out seperately. Cause it was too much work to balence them inside the machine.

Hi Mark
I'm not into this genre of music at all so it didn't do anything for me but it's interesting how you recorded it and your enthusiasm for the process is obvious!

Hi Mark.

You lost me completely in your explanation of the methods you used, seems like a lot of hard work , and far too technical for an old fart like me .

Anyhow,.....however you did it, the end justified the means

Loved the intricacy of the beat, much going on, and a great funky tone to it.

So glad it wasn't really a rap song

Very enjoyable arrangement and performance .
