Default Cumulus - 04-08-2010, 02:33 PM

Hi Folks
I've had these phrases kicking about in my head for a while and have been trying to make a song out of them.
Here are 2 different attempts and recording methods and I'd be grateful for some feedback on which you prefer.
I'll put the different methods of recording in a 'Behind the Song' thread

CUMULUS 1.mp3 - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

CUMULUS 2.mp3 - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

They were recorded with the Motif XS6 so there's no midi - you couldn't play it even if there was!

Cheers
Spike

Hi Spike

Finally found the time to listen to some uploads.

I think these both work great, in different scenarios. I liked the first, but loved the second. I can 'hear' the first being used in a piece after the second one to keep the overall theme going, and maybe in a different key.

This type of music works perfectly as background music to something visual, rather than standalone pieces, which is why I think the both of them have a place together.

With the sounds and beats at your disposal on the Motif, I'm sure you'd easily find a way of linking the pieces together. This is definitely worth developing. A professional sound with a perfect arrangement for this genre.

Keep at it, really good stuff.

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul
Thank a bunch for giving this a listen. You have the knack of hearing more in my stuff than I do. I'm sure I can link the 2 together, it's a cool idea and one which needs a bit of thought to do properly. As the title suggests it has cloud as the subject so it shouldn't be too hard to do a link using weather/thunder etc.......thinking cap already on!
Cheers
Spike

Hi Spike.

Finally found 10 minutes to check out the forum

Two nice arangements here,....like Leo,I could also detect an eastern influence in the first one, which is mainly due to the drum pattern .

Shades of early "Tangerine Dream" with the second composition, a simple, repeated melody line being enhanced with a variety of sounds and effects.

As a suggestion,I couldn't help wondering if bringing in some stronger, more upbeat drums to beef up the tempo towards the end, would bring it to a nice climax ?

Two very enjoyable pieces, with some nice tight phrasing, and another great example of your editing skills

Regards
Gordon
