Default Shadows - 06-06-2012, 11:44 AM

Hi Everybody
This may be the last Original number for a little while as new ones can take a while to come together.
This was one of my first attempts at composition.
Originally inspired by the early recordings of the The Shadows it then began to take on a life of it's own. It has been reincarnated here as A live recording augmented by some extra playing on top.
It probably should have a different name so if anyone can come up with a good one I would be grateful
Hope you like it

Hi Barry

I really enjoyed this, great registrations, composition, and very well played.

Your other vids on YT are of the same high standard. You have composed and played some lovely songs here, really well done.

The accompanying photography was enjoyable too, but, I would prefer to see you play.

Kind regards

Peter S

Hi Peter
Many thanks for your great comments and subscribing to my channel
Writing my own pieces and overdubbing are relatively new to me but I think that I may concentrate on these because of some good comments recently.
I am playing about with a couple of other pieces at the moment so hopefully they will turn out ok
I did do a video of me playing on Yt but I did not like it much. The quality was not great. I will have to try a different camera!
Many thanks again
Barry

Hi Barry
That is one fantastic composition and recording, yes 'Shadows' is probably the wrong title but only because the video doesn't match it. The title would be fine on its own but once you put a video to it the title has to match the video - therein lies the difficulty. I toyed with a few titles for the video but none would match the mood of the music. It's basically a few shots of a country house, difficult to relate to a definite tune, easier if it was just ethereal background music.
When I make my videos I look at what I've produced then compose the music to suit as you get a better idea on the mood you need to create. Starting with music then trying to find the right pictures is always going to create problems of matching.
That said I was really impressed with the composition, the chord sequences and voice changes - a very professional effort.
Cheers
Spike

Hi Spike
So glad you liked it
The video is always going to be a problem I have been looking for a fractal generator to use instead of pictures. Preferably one that is based on the actual music.
I think I am going to stick with my recording setup as the Zoom does not seem to do quite as well as my Yamaha interface. Mind you I am probably half deaf anyhow!
Peter suggested ( in this thread ) that I video myself playing which is not a bad idea except I did try it and the recording quality was awful and even if it wasn't I tend to look like Yogi Bear having a picnic!
Anyhow many thanks again Spike

Hi Barry
Just a suggestion but if you are going to video yourself playing do it in 2 parts. By all means record the sound with the camera but record it on the Tyros too, make that into an Mp3 and when you make the video delete the camera sound track and insert the Tyros sound track. Ok you have to synch it fairly well but not precisely. You then have the best of both worlds.
Of course this only applies to live playing, if you start adding tracks it could be noticed in the video that there are more sounds than those which are being played.
I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio software to assemble videos and you just add or delete tracks - what software do you use? I got mine off Ebay for 11.
Cheers
Spike

Hi Spike
Many thanks for the thought
That was what I did the first time around
I use Video Studio originally by Ulead but bought out by Corel
It does an excellent job (at least I think it does)
My problem was the camera or my lighting or me! ( I can crack lenses at 1000 paces ). The actual video was chronic. I used a little Panasonic TZ7.
I'm clearly not cut out to be a film director
Oh well bye from yogi bear

Hi Barry
Your problem is obviously with the camera, small ones tend to have crap audio that can't handle a large range of frequencies. Even my Sony HVR HD1000 although broadcast quality HD video has only mediocre audio so I either use the keyboard to record then convert to Mp3 or direct record to Mp3 with my Tascam DR40 although using that introduces a microphone into the equation which you really want to avoid for music.
When videoing someone playing all you really want is the arms and hands so a side shot from about shoulder height usually does the job.
Cheers
Spike
