OK this is a bit different, I don’t normally write original tunes on my Tyros 2 using styles, and if I do they tend to end up sounding like nothing like they started out, so it is probably not really appropriate to post them here.

However…. this is a live performance (i.e. played in real time), and the backing music is pretty much just the Tyros 2 using the 2 Ibiza 2002 sytle, but I did load in a complete vocal with separate verses and chorus along with a few bangs and synth effects into the sample ram to be triggered in real time from the keyboard so all the sounds you hear including the vocals are coming from the T2. It was all basically a bit of fun but actually took around 3 hours to sort the samples out & record.

If you would like a listen get it here: let_me_believe.mp3 - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage

I have attached a midi file but this is only the Tyros 2 style tracks as the triggered samples I used would make no sense midi wise.

Hi David
However you did it I love the end product. I'm impressed with the method you've used and intrigued too. Perhaps you could enlighten me in words of one syllable how you put it together. I'm used to editing with software but never tried recording anything like this.
Is the vocal also a sampled voice or audio? I liked the arpeggiated phrases in the bridge - bit of JMJ there!
I take your point about the midi, in the case of vocals where a midi can't be produced we normally upload a 'blank.mid' so that it at least appears on your profile (Mp3's don't).
Great stuff David - look forward to more.
Cheers
Spike

Hi David,

This is amazingly clever and must be pushing the Tyros to its absolute limits!

I'm also intrigued how you put this together, as I'm sure there are many of us who are not taking full advantage of our keyboards' abilities.

I don't want to put you under any pressure, but if you would consider, (time permitting of course), posting a 'how-to' in the music workshop, I think this would be a great resource for the members. If you're too busy, then honestly it's not a problem.

Anyway, this was brilliant and I loved all the stuff going on everywhere. I thought the voice effects, a vocoder?, were spot on. A perfect mix also.

Cheers

Paul

Hi Spike, thanks for the comments and yes the vocal is a recorded performance, cut into sections then loaded into the Tyros as wave files, and played back just like the other samples. I think a few DJ’s and Re-mixers use sample keyboards for the same sort of thing.

David.

Hi Paul, again thanks for the comments, but really the Tyros 2 can do this sort of thing without breaking into a sweat, and it probably sounds more than it is. The basic backing track is just the Tyros 2 Ibiza 2002 style and it was just a matter of loading in some wav files via the voice creator then triggering them at the right moment from the keyboard.

I don’t think there is enough interest to warrant a how-to posting especially as it would only really apply to Tyros owners and its all there in the manual.

The vocal effects were already done before I loaded them up but its just a bit of filtering, and some pitch shifting, the kind of thing you hear all the time on the radio… or so I’m told not having listened to the radio for some time myself.

I am very much a novice with regard the T2, I basically use it as a sound source, a master keyboard and glorified drum machine, but I do intend to dig deeper.

David.

.
How very nice to return to this group after a few months and
find such talent flourishing.

David, I spotted your link in the Styles Group, and something
just told me to "give it a try."

I think I should tell you, I couldn't get the link to work. I had
to come here and search out the song. But it could be a PC
problem.

It's amazing what you've been able to do with your T2. And you
have crafted a very fine song on it as well. I want you to know
that I am sending a copy to several of my friends. Your song has
a "haunting" quality to it that I like very much.

Do we get to learn who sang the vocal for you? (Or are we to
find that this was your own voice, a final proof that sex-change
operations are no longer just a fad?)

Please treat us to more of your work. And tell us more about
your methods.

Dave
