Default Ty 5 Basics - 09-06-2015, 12:12 PM

Hi all,

I know it's just me being a grumpy old f**t, but I am staggered at the pathetic 'manual' that comes with the Tyros 5. I think they assume that a buyer has been familiar with Yamaha o/s since before Yamaha made motorbikes.

So here's a question that has no doubt been well covered but I can't find it:

How to edit the Multipads within the pre-loaded styles?

Sorry in advance -- I know it's a dumb question.

Norm.

Hi Norm,

I have replied to your other thread/post about Multi Pads with instructions on downloading the 'Tyros5 Reference Manual' which may help you in future.

Regarding Multi Pads associated with styles, they are saved as part of the OTS section of a style.

If when you say 'edit the Multipads within the pre-loaded styles', you simply want to change the MP bank loaded when an OTS button is selected, either manually or automatically when the OTS Link button is on, you need re-memorise the OTS.

You do this by first pressing the relevant OTS button to make sure that the keyboard is setup with the voices and other settings contained within that OTS. Then select and load the Multi Pad bank that you want to use, and memorise the new setup into the same OTS button.

You memorise a setup into an OTS memory (button) by first pressing the 'MEMORY' button in the REGISTRATION MEMORY section.

This will open the REGISTRATION MEMORY CONTENTS screen, but you can ignore this since it is only relevant when memorising registrations.

However while it is on screen, press the OTS button into which you want to save the current keyboard settings (including your preferred Multi Pad bank) to actually memorise the settings in the button. The button should flash a couple of times to show that the new setup is being written to it.

After memorising an OTS you will be prompted to save the style, which you can do at this point.

However because the Multi Pad bank is memorised separately in each of the four OTS memories (which of course means that you can have different MP banks loaded with each OTS), you might want to change one or more of the others as well. You can then save the style once you have made all of the changes.

This is explained in the Reference Manual on page 30.

Regards

Ian

Tyrosaurus, Thank you very much for your help on this. In fact, I have the same problem. You said this:"select and load the Multi Pad bank that you want to use". I am sorry but I cannot get it: where should I load the "new" Multipad from? Thank you in advance,

bolepa

Hi bolepa,

You select the multi pad bank that you want to use from the Multi Pad selection screen.

You open this either by pressing the MULTI PAD CONTROL [SELECT] button on the panel, or by pressing the [E] button when the MAIN display is on screen.

You can then use [TAB] buttons if necessary to move to the drive containing the bank that you want to use. There are a number of ready made Multi Pad banks in the PRESET drive. If you have edited any of them, made your own, or downloaded any from the internet, they will be in the USER, HD1 or USB drives.

Once you are on the correct drive, you navigate to the folder containing the MPs and select them in the same way as you do to select a style or voice.

Remember that if you want to have the same MP bank in all four OTS memories, you have to press one of the OTS buttons to set up the voices etc. (which will also load the existing MP bank), load the MP bank that you want to use, and memorise the settings back to the same OTS button. Repeat this for the other three OTS buttons. Finally save the style.

Regards

Ian
