Exclamation New Song - First one in here . . . - 08-01-2014, 03:14 AM

I finally found the time to finish this . .

https://app.box.com/s/1zcrz6157zijef2ww9pd

The woman at the doctor's surgery (talking to a child) was heard to say "If you don't stop fiddling with it, it won't get better!"

I listened.

All sounds (except the vocal) from the Alesis Fusion 8HD - Mixed as audio in Reaper64 running on Vista64 HPE/SP2

Subject matter is somewhat unusual, inasmuch as it is childhood recollections of holidays around 50 years ago . . .

The link works but nothing heard and at 18Mb I'm not going to persist.
I've also moved it to the vocal section as it appears to be a vocal

Hi
Yes we've had the conflict of where to put things like this before and decided the vocal section was the most appropriate as original vocals on this site number about two and don't warrant their own section. The size of the download might deter people on limited bandwidth from listening though - I come under that category.
Hope you get some nice comments about it.
Cheers
Spike

Thanks Spike,

I hadn't considered that.

I'm on VirginMedia (Cable) with a 20Mb service - I guess other are not so lucky . . . .

Any feedback is welcome. I used to have lots where I used to work at the Uni - but since redundancy - the feedback is gone - as are the Studio facilities. and I surely DO wish I'd made more use of those . . . . .

I've just had a full listen through and LOVED it !!

It definitely has a Pink Floyd feel to it and I loved the progression with added sounds to keep the interest. I'd possibly look at an instrumental section in the middle to break the verses up a little, maybe a clean, soft guitar or similar. The snare and hat could do with damping down just a little at around the 2:50 mark as they're disturbing the vocal a bit.

You've made it obvious by the amount of work involved in this and the feeling purveyed that it means a great deal to you, and that is transported to the listener very well.

As I said earlier, I LOVED it

Hi mate

I don't normally listen to vocal offerings but thought I'd take a listen as there seemed to be an issue with playback. I can report no problems at my end running on an iPad with a poorish wi-fi signal. The song loaded without any drama.

I liked the song, there were some nice chord changes to keep the listener's interest. The vocal seemed very dry in comparison to the other instruments although I presume this was intentional (nice bit of piano by the way!).

Unfortunately, any tune with a vocal has to go into this section and as Spike mentioned, it's not a popular section. To reach more 'ears' you might wish to consider uploading an instrumental at some point where I'm sure you'll receive much more feedback.

Keep 'em coming!

All the best

Paul

Thankyou Gary for your very flattering comments - I guess all composers would aspire to such a response . . .

Good point about an instrumental section - though I guess I'd have to lose a verse and/or chorus to keep it from going over 10 minutes . . .
Problem is, when I like it - it tend to take me over - and I keep going . . .

You are correct - it does mean a great deal to me . . The background to it is better explained here Slade Farm - The WebSite so you could say that I was verging on the obsessive . . . (That IS the little grey House BTW)
The Forum linked inside is a meeting place for those who feel the same as me - so the Song is really an attempt to encapsulate aspects of those holidays all those years ago, and reflect them - as they were truly amazing times . .

Thankyou too Paul,

The vocals are fairly dry as I wanted them to be intelligeable - so they only have occasional echo/reverb courtesy of Reaper.

Vocal was tortuous to do, mind you, Track playback from iPod through Cans, recorded with SM58 into my M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 as a 44.1Khz 24bit WAV for direct import to Reaper. Recorded in our conservatory late one night.

Had to re-record the first line due to some petrol-head flooring it away from the lights outside . . . SHEESH!

The "Holy Grail Grand Piano" preset did much to help the Fusion out of the Shops in the early days - but as with all Piano voices - It had its share of disparagers.

Overall Description here: http://www.quparts.com/The-Holy-Grail-P ... 72-900.htm

Sound Clip is here : http://www.quparts.com/v/vspfiles/asset ... 0Grail.mp3

I think its quite a respectable sound and I used it "as is" with no FX from Reaper either.

Thankyou BOTH for your comments
