Default Converting Audio to Midi program. - 31-10-2009, 07:12 PM

Hi To All. This is my latest update.
I have a Roland Juno 6 which does not have midi so i am experimenting
with a program called:- TS-AudioToMIDI 3.30.

Here is the blurb on it.
Quote/In real-time mode it instantly converts music coming

through the microphone or line input of your computer

into a MIDI sequence.

Recognizing pre-recorded music allows converting

digital sound to MIDI format. MIDI file takes hundreds

times less space than any digital sound format, which

allows you to use it as a melody for your web page or

make a preview of your mp3 Internet music collection.

As MIDI file is, in fact, a layout of music, you can

change its arrangement in contrast to digital sound.

Instruments, number of voices or melody itself can be

easily modified using any THIRD PARTY SCORE EDITOR

which allows creating remixes, variations and printing

musical notation. You may even put the melody in your

mobile phone!/end quote.

I will be trying to load the converted midi file into the Yamaha PSR E403YT400 that I have just bought.Do you think this will work? or is there a better way?
Does anyone know of a good easy to use THIRD PARTY SCORE EDITOR?
thanks from Eliza.

Hi Eliza
There has been much discussion in various music sites about converting audio to midi and the consensus is that it can't be done successfully whatever the software claims. It might be partially successful with one instrument/voice on 1 audio track to 1 midi track. Audio is sound (a .wav file), midi is a collection of digital instructions and performance data which are sent to a sound generator whose output is audio.
Midi to audio isn't a problem, the reverse hasn't been mastered yet as far as I know.
There are a number of score editors (some free) but I can't advise on them as I can't read music.

Hi Eliza,

Have to agree with Spike. I can't see any program having the accuracy to figure out every note played and position it on the correct instrument/midi track. The program in my view will struggle to get instruments with similar frequencies, e.g. electric piano/accoustic guitar positioned correctly on their own tracks. I should imagine the bass line and main melody would be fairly accurate, but for the stuff in between I'm not so sure.

I think all the main sequencing programs such as Cubase, Sonar etc. have score editors as part of the program, but I'm sure there are some stand-alone editors so hopefully someone will be able to recommend one for you.

Best regards

Paul

Well, you may think i work for these guys but i don't.

I always recommend this programme because I bought this about a hundred years ago and although it is PayWare they never charge for upgrades but they always keep it up to date.

It can do a plethera of things including score editing from scratch or from importing a midi file.

My computer can speak Mac and PC. They offer both languages so give it try before you buy or don't buy.

My recommendation: Myriad: Music Notation Software, and much more...

Honestly hope you like it.
