Default Free Expansion Pack. - 06-02-2014, 11:26 AM

A few months ago I downloaded the free " Best of Europe " from Yamaha. I have not been able to do a lot with it, but I am pleased that I discovered three of the 40 styles are great to play along with. They are # 04 British M 2-4 to which I play 'The British Grenadiers"
# 14 Orch Pasodoble to which I play the famous Israelie Folk song "Hava Nagila" and # 17 Gt.Swg Chanson to which I play the Seekers Hit song "In South Australia." All three work well on my PSR 750.
I wonder if any of our members would like to try out one or two of the above, and post their comments, on the Forum.
Also, I would love to hear from members the names of any well known songs which sound good when played along with any of the 40 styles in the Best Of Europe Pack.
If they posted the model of Yamaha they tried them on, I think, by using Michael Bedesem's "Music Finder View" I would be able to adapt them for my PSR 750. [I hope I am correct in this assumption] Would someone let me know, please, because I am very much the novice in all of this stuff.

Hi Romeo,

The pack that Trevor is referring to is a Voice and Style Expansion (VSE) pack for the PSR-S950/750 and the A2000. It contains additional voices which use new wave samples contained in the pack as well as 40 styles. The pack loads into the built in flash expansion memory that these keyboards contain. Unless you have one of the above keyboards you will not be able to load the pack and use the voices.

However there is a piece of software which can 'extract' the styles from the pack and produce individual style files. However the styles are in SFF2 (SFF-GE) format, which means that you would have to convert them to SFF (SFF1) to use on a Tyros1, if that is what you still have.

Even after conversion, many of them use some of the new voices from the pack which won't be available to you, so you would need to re-voice them, guessing what the instrument is supposed to be.

If you are still interested here is a link to the Yamaha site from where the pack can be downloaded. Scroll down the page until you find it. There are other free packs too. This is the UK site but if it doesn't work for you, there should be a link from European Yamaha sites ...

Voice & Style Expansion - Special Site - Yamaha - UK and Ireland

The software to extract the styles and to convert them to SFF1 is from Jørgen Sørensen's site... YAMAHA Keyboard - Home

The programs that you need are 'Style In YEP Files' and 'Style Format 2 Converter'

Regards

Ian

Hi, I don't know where in the world you live, but the promotion that you refer to was not available everywhere. It is also quite old and may have expired now.

However other people have recently managed to get one free pack as follows, after first registering their 950/750 with Yamaha MusicSoft.

Select the pack that you want, add it to your Shopping Cart, proceed to the Checkout page, and enter the code 'FREEPACKYME' in the Promotion Code box.

This should reduce the total amount payable to zero, and when you complete the process by clicking Place Order you should be able to download the pack.

I just tried it and it seems to be still working for me, so try it yourself.

Regards

Ian

Hi

Try this: Yamaha MusicSoft: VSE

As stated above: YAMAHA Keyboard - Style In YEP Files will extract the styles from the Expansion Pack.
And YAMAHA Keyboard - Style Format 2 Converter will convert the styles to SFF1 format if you should need this.

Regards
Jørgen

Thanks for this info. I tried it and it worked perfectly. The EuroDance Expansion Pack is awesome.

I'm from South Africa by the way.

I'm new to this. What is the main reason why I would want to extract the styles?

You don't need to if you have a PSR-S950 or 750. The styles load into the keyboard as part of the pack loading process.

Extracting the styles makes them available to users of other keyboards, although the new voices in the pack can't be accessed, so anywhere one of these is used by a style, either for one of the style parts, or in OTS as a main voice, the user will need to select a different voice.

Regards

Ian
