Default New voices for tyros 4 - 29-04-2012, 07:41 AM

Hi all,
This is my first ever post here which i do tend to feel somewhat guilty about as i've been a member now for a couple of months,Sorry. I was wondering if a member could advise me with the following question. I would quite like to purchase some extra voices for my Tyros 4,namely the "cathederal pack" from a company called Sounds For Keys.My question is, do i actually need the additional Ram memory pack either from Yamaha or Mutec or could i simply just load the voices each time i switch on my Tyros? Graham.

Hi Veruter, You definitely require the ram pack which is flash memory in the Tyros 4, 512mb or the 1 gigb which ever you can afford.
The voices remain in the Tyros 4, unlike the T2 or T3 which don't have flash memory, they have to be loaded from the hard drive each time.
You need to load the latest firmware 1.10, if you require further help let me know. http://download.yamaha.com/search/produc...duct_id=1072947

Hi Graham, Jambo is correct, you will need to install flash expansion memory in your T4 for any voices such as these, that use samples (waves) that are not already built into the instrument's ROM.

I see that you have already spotted that there is an alternative to the extortionately priced Yamaha boards. I purchased the 1 GB Mutec FMC-06 from Thoman ( Mutec FMC-06 - Thomann UK Cyberstore) six months ago, for around £100 less than the Yamaha product, and I have had no problems with it so far.

Regards

Ian

Hi Spike
I tried to load thousands of styles to Tyros4 but I was told that the folder containing the styles is too big and tyros refused to open it . Is there a limit to the size of the folder ?
Thanks

Hi Hass
Yes there is a limit, it was 250 styles to a folder for the old T2 and I think it's the same for the T4.
The easiest way to transfer the files (and it may get round the problem) is to go into File Transfer Mode by connecting the T4 to your PC via USB, holding down the Music Finder while switching on the T4. Go to your PC/my computer and it should should show the T4 as an external drive. Copy and paste your styles to the Hard Drive of the T4.
Cheers
Spike

I believe that the memory that Spike is referring to is DRAM DIMMS as used in the Tyros 2 and 3.

This type of memory is not used in the Tyros 4. The only expansion memory that can be used for the Tyros 4 is SDRAM Flash Memory, in the form of an expansion card. Yamha make their own cards, and the only other manufacturer that I am aware of that makes a suitable alternative is a German company called Mutec.(See earlier posts in this thread).

Hass - the file limit for the Tyros 4 is 500 per folder, although you will find that they are accessed faster if you have fewer than this. The limit includes files and folders. As Spike said, the easiest way to transfer a lot of files is to set up a folder structure on your PC containing the files. This can then be copied to the T4 in one go, when it is connected to the PC in File Storage mode.

Regards

Ian
